Inspiraatiota metsästä :: Inspired by the forest

This shawl has been on the needles for a long time. I have knitted and frogged, knitted and frogged this many times. I first charted the pattern on paper and tried to knit with the instructions. Nothing came of it, I always miscalculated the stitches and made errors. Frequent use of lifelines prooved to be very handy in this project. Then I let go and just knitted what came to my mind, just counting the stitches every now and then and estimating how the pattern repeats would fit. And the shawl came out pretty nice.

I used the good old Finnish worsted yarn from Pirtin Kehräämö again. It's a pity they are going to stop producing this weight of yarn (110 tex x 2), it is such a perfect yarn for lace knitting. I was going to dye the yarn to moss green but now that I look at the finished shawl I like the natural colour very much. I think I'll not dye the shawl after all.

The inspiration for the shawl came from the nearby forest which is a very exciting place with old spruce trees, elks, owls and many other wild animals. The stitches remind me of foxes, owls' eyes and big birds. I wanted to knit a shawl from the neck down with no holes or yarnovers in the middle and succeeded quite well, I think, although I am not totally happy with the proportions. More pics of the shawl in its natural habitat to come as soon as it stops raining here.
