This weekend, I wanted to get some dyed yarn fast. So, I used the sloppy method. I soaked two skeins of grey yarn in vinegar and water as usual. Then I placed the skeins, one at a time, in a microwave pot and poured some dye over. Orange and green, which seem to be my favourite colours right now.

Sitten kolme kertaa kahden minuutin tykitys mikroaaltouunissa, välillä kahden minuutin tauko.
Another skein on top, a little lighter grey, this one, and some more dye. Then three times 2 minutes' nuking in the microwave oven, leaving the yarn rest for 2 minutes after each heating.

When I tossed the steaming hot yarns in the sink, the bottom skein, now on top, had significantly more colour than the top skein.

Actually, the yarns looked exactly as you would expect after being sloppy with your dyeing: a lot of uncoloured spots, one darker, one much lighter skein. But I needed sock yarn, and started making one as you can see in the picture.

After finishing the socks, I had some "camouflage" yarn left. I decided to do mittens. What's special about these mittens is that I started them at the top, like toe up socks. I wasn't sure that there would be enough yarn for the whole project, and I was right, there wasn't. So I had to make the cuffs of solid brown yarn. But now I know that you can knit mittens every which way you ever need ;-)
